The Creative Process

Alistair’s animal portraits are created in strong watercolour on textured, exhibition quality paper.

He believes that an exact replica of a photograph defeats the purpose of having a pet portrait. Although his paintings are life-like they are painterly images that reflect your pet’s true personality.

Alistair’s paintings take approximately 3-4 weeks from the commissioning of a portrait to the delivery of the artwork. However, if it’s a Christmas gift, it may take a little longer as that is the busiest time of the year.

Unlike many online portrait services Alistair feels that it’s important to meet his clients and for them to meet him. This leads to a very personal and caring service.

If possible he prefers to take his own photographs of your dog, cat or horse and

is prepared to travel in order to achieve that. He can paint from your existing photographs but will advise you whether their quality meets his artistic needs. Another option is that you bring your pet to him in West Sussex for a photographic session.
